Audrey Stevens
DVM, DACVR
Dr. Stevens is a board-certified specialist in veterinary radiation oncology. Dr. Stevens obtained her DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, completing her final year of clinical studies at the University of Minnesota. She completed a rotating small animal internship and an oncology specialty internship at Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego from 2014-2016. Dr. Stevens then went on to complete a 3-year radiation oncology residency at the University of Wisconsin. She is currently an Associate Medical Director and full-time radiation oncologist at Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego. Her professional interests include brain tumors, nasal tumors, and palliative care to alleviate pain and improve her patients’ quality of life. She also has a strong interest in work-life balance and preventing burnout of her colleagues and staff. She loves challenging herself and is currently learning how to fly helicopters. She enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, camping and paddle boarding with her husband and their 11-year old island dog, Eva, and 2 year old beagle Darwin.

Elizabeth Maxwell
DVM, DACVS
Dr. Maxwell, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA, CVPP, ACVS Fellow of Surgical Oncology, is a Miami native that graduated from RUSVM in 2012. She went on to complete a rotating internship at LSU, followed by a surgical internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Colorado, and a surgical fellowship at Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists in Florida. Dr Maxwell then completed a small animal surgical residency at the University of Illinois, where she also obtained an M.S. Degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Followed residency, she completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Florida and became one of less than 60 veterinary surgical oncologists in the US, recognized by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Since completing her training, Dr. Maxwell was hired as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Surgical Oncology at UF and has contributed significantly to clinical research, teaching, and service over the past 2 years. She is a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner and Fear Free Certified. Dr. Maxwell also served as past-president of the Veterinary Wound Management Society, and currently serves as President for the Collaborative Care Coalition, a nonprofit that aims to achieve optimal health care for animals and improve the relationships between primary care veterinarians and veterinary specialists. Recently Dr. Maxwell joined as host of the Margin, the official podcast of the Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncologists.

The group will visit this site on the last day of the conference. Please select if you will attend when you register – this is important for a head count.

***Tour will depart from the Aloft Hotel lobby at 6:30am, November 2, 2023. Please arrive 10 minutes early so we will have a punctual departure.****
You will have the opportunity to visit all parts of the site, with stops at the Kukulkan pyramid, the ball game, the temple of the warriors and several still-existing platforms from Mayan history. We will also walk till the Cenote Sagrado (no swimming), the Observatory Area and oldest part of Chichen Itza ruins. At the end of the visit, some free time will be offered to you to shop for souvenirs.
After Chichen Itza, we will head over to Valladolid. Valladolid showcases the main market place of the area and is home to a famous Cathedral and Convent San Bernardino de Siena (second biggest convent in the Yucatan). This trip will also allow you to dine at a local restaurant that specializes in gourmet Yucatan cuisine. You will not want to return home without trying authentic food and there is no better location than Valladolid.
