Dr Zimmer grew up in Armada, Michigan where she learned to ride horses through 4-H although never owning a horse herself. She raised and showed diary goats while riding horses of friends or at the farms that she worked at. She obtained her associates in Veterinary Technology from Macomb Community College and worked as a Licensed
Veterinary Technician for 7 years at a veterinary practice that was limited to
ophthalmology prior to heading to veterinary school. She eared a bachelors in Animal
Science from Michigan State University and her DVM from Ross University School of
Veterinary Medicine. After completing a year of clinical work at Purdue University, she
went on to do a rotating internship at VCA Veterinary Care and Emergency in
Albuquerque, NM then a 3 year residency in Comparative Ophthalmology at the
University of Georgia and became board certified by the American Board of Veterinary
Ophthalmology. Once she returned to Michigan, she managed the ophthalmology department at a busy small animal specialty and referral hospital in Metro Detroit for 5 years before venturing out on her own to start Animal Eye Solutions. Her work now includes mobile ophthalmology for small and large animals which allows her to be back in the barn treating horses while visiting small animal practices to offer specialty ophthalmology care. She is currently a member of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology, International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium, American Veterinary Medical Association, South-Eastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Michigan Beekeepers Association. Her hobbies include beekeeping, boating, regenerative farming and gardening, traveling, horseback riding and keeping up with her French Bulldog, Wally.
